Lara's Operation 10:00 am Thursday Today is the day for Lara's operation - she has had to go to the vets to be spayed now that she is six months old so I am 'home alone' for the day and at last I get chance to get on the computer as she is not around to hog the internet! I must say, to be fair, that she is a good sister to me - she is still bigger than me (but not for long as I am catching up fast! - see the table of our weights) and she is quite protective of me - most of the time. Mind you yesterday I was sitting in the lounge minding my own business when someone suddenly rushed in, pulled my tail and then ran out again before I could see who it was. I think it must have been her - but when I found her a few minutes later she looked so innocent ................................! Anyway back to the operation business - we both got nothing to eat after 6.00 pm last night which was kind of hard luck on me because I am not having an operation (well not yet anyway). Our owner said if I had any supper Lara might pinch some so we both went without (does anyone know how to contact the RSPCA or the Cats Protection?) and this morning we got a lie in but no breakfast. My owner then picked up Lara, popped her in the cat carrier and whisked her into the car leaving me alone in the kitchen. Fortunately she quickly came back to give me some food and then they drove off together. Our owner is back with me now and I have her undivided attention so I am sitting on her knee purring encouragement as she types this for me and we wait for the phone call to tell us how Lara is. 11:00 am Well we decided we couldn't wait for the phone call to tell us how she was so I got my owner to ring them anyway and they said she is fine, she has had the operation, is now in 'recovery' and can come home this afternoon. Meantime I have got bored with sitting on my owner's knees so I have settled in the washbasin for a nap! Did I mention by the way that following my 'great expedition' to the top of the Acacia tree that Lara had a go at climbing through one of the shrubby trees (not nearly so high as the one I went up!) and came back covered in green streaks!! We have popped a picture of her alongside so that you can see what it looks like - somehow I doubt it will catch on as a new colour! 3:30 pm Lara is home again! It is lovely to see her back home where she belongs she seems to be fine but looks a little puzzled so I guess she is still feeling the after effects of the anaesthetic. She had a little wander around as soon as she got home just to check it was all here and I have taken on the role of nursemaid so I follow her around and curl up next to her if she setttles anywhere. Apparently she is on a light diet this evening (which I guess means I am as well?) but should be OK to eat tomorrow. She has a line of little stitches on her tummy and she had a bandage on her front leg but our owner has taken that off now. I am so glad to see her again - I was getting a bit worried as it felt quite lonely without her! Max 8:00 am Friday I see Max had some time on the computer yesterday as I was away for the day. It was such a strange day - I woke up hungry because we didn't get any supper, our owner let us sleep in and then didn't give us any breakfast either. She put me in the cat basket (which seemed to have got much smaller than it was when I came here - maybe I have just got bigger?) and then drove me to a big place. She introduced me to a very nice chap who made a fuss of me and checked me over and then she abandoned me! I was put in a pen for a while and then two complete strangers took me and gave me an injection. I don't remember very much after that until I woke up feeling funny. When I checked myself over I found that my tummy was bald and had four little spiky things sticking in the skin and I had a bandage on one leg. I was still feeling a little bit strange when a lady came and put me back in the cat basket and took me into a room where my owner was waiting for me. It was lovely to see her again and it was great when she put me in the car and drove me home. Max seemed pleased to see me and he was very concerned as I think he knew I was a little bit wobbly. We had some lovely fish for tea and my owner said I was to be on a light diet in case I felt a bit queasy. Really? - I mean I hadn't eaten for 24 hours - I wasn't having any of that so I cleaned up Max's tea as well as my own and then I went off for a good sleep. This morning I feel much better so I have had a good game with Max, lots of breakfast and now I am going to have a snooze. I still have the spiky things on my tummy but my owner says those are 'stitches' and they will be there until next Saturday so I guess I just have to get used to them! 10:00 am Saturday I feel just fine now and I am catching up on the food I missed! Max is teething so he isn't too sure about food which means all the more for me!! Our owner found one of Max's teeth this morning - can you guess where she found it? In my coat of course, she notice blood stains on my head and shoulder and then she spotted the tooth. Max can't deny that he plays rough any more as now we have the evidence to prove that he must have been biting me! - and me fresh out of hospital !!!!! Lara Page created: 20-Jun-2002
