An owner's view

OK - life with a kitten in the house is fun - and Lara is a kitten with a true sense of humour and fun. Having had her predecessor for 16 years you tend to forget just what mischief kittens can get up to and Lara is pretty good at mischief!!

Lara is a delightful Chocolate Point Birman kitten who is giving me hours of sheer pleasure................

When she first arrived one of her favourite hiding places was in the canvas under the settee. Needless to say this meant that anytime I wasn't sure where she was I would get on all fours, peer under the settee, call her name and the canvas would move and she would appear.

As she gained confidence she found a new game - hide in the lounge and then when I appear and get on all fours talking to the underside of the settee she would appear from somewhere completely different and sit there looking at me with great amusement!!

Over Easter I thought it would be nice for her to be able to play outside but I am not yet confident enough to let her play in the whole garden. I therefore spent much of the holiday building her a safe run outside the window in the conservatory. On Easter Monday feeling very proud of my efforts I let her out in it for the first time.

I then went out into the rest of the garden only to be treated to a lovely demonstration of just how easy it is for a small kitten to climb a six foot high mesh fence and sit proudly on the top rail ! - Needless to say I spent the rest of the day putting a top on the run so that she can play happily in there safe and sound.

As you will have gathered I am soon to get another kitten to keep her company - I would have had two from the same litter but the others were all sold. Her half brother, Max, will be joining us shortly and I look forward to bringing you up to date with their adventures in the weeks to come.

I have to go now as Lara has been sitting patiently on my knee watching me type this into the PC but she is now ready for another game so I am afraid duty calls!!

My two previous Birman cats were Katy and Lucy - Seal Point Birman litter sisters. Katy died in 2000 aged fourteen and a half and Lucy died on 1st March 2002.
